Monobloc arrives!

The one piece double engine cylinder and steamchest has now been cast and has arrived at Boston Lodge.

Funding is still required to complete the machining. If you feel you would like to contribute please send money to the Ffestiniog Railway Society via John Powell, 21 Madoc St, Porthmadog, LL49 9BU. If funding is achieved, the machining will be done this year and hopefully the new castings can be fitted to Taliesin over the coming winter.

From 05/03/09:

Piston Casting?

The pattern and many core boxes for the one piece cylinder block for Taliesin have been completed.

If this new design is shown to work on Taliesin through extensive testing, the next engine to benefit will possibly be David Lloyd George and in fullness of time all Fairlie engines. Designer Bob Yates looks on below.

The next step is to get the patterns to the foundry so a casting can made. There is enough funding in the pot to get the casting but there is insufficient to get the castings machined and fitted. We need about £10k more. If you feel like contributing please send money to FRSL via John Powell, 21 Madoc St, Porthmadog, LL49 9BU.

If there are sufficient funds machining will be done this year and hopefully the new castings can be fitted to Taliesin over the winter.
